SkyVision 1.0 “Firstborn” 2026-06-12 · stable

Our first stable release. One architecture (x86-64, v2 baseline), two ISOs (Base 812 MB, Xfce Desktop 2.3 GB), 1,842 signed binary packages, and the complete SkyVision Book frozen against this exact package set.

Highlights

  • Linux 6.12.30 LTS with the fully annotated SkyVision kernel config
  • Toolchain: GCC 14.2.0 · glibc 2.41 · Binutils 2.43.1, whole repo built with LTO at x86-64-v2
  • svpkg 1.0.2 — hybrid binary/source package manager with signed repos and local recipe overlays
  • sky-install guided installer with the command-review screen and answer-file replay
  • UEFI Secure Boot shim; legacy BIOS still fully supported
  • Desktop ISO: Xfce 4.20, Xorg 21.1.16, PipeWire 1.2, Firefox ESR, LibreOffice 25.2

Known issues

  • Broadcom BCM43xx Wi-Fi needs the wiki's b43 firmware recipe (firmware licensing prevents shipping it)
  • Suspend-then-hibernate is unreliable on some Ryzen 7000 laptops — track forum thread #214
  • The live Xfce session ignores HiDPI scaling until first login; installed systems are fine

Upgrading from rc2

  • svpkg sync && svpkg up — rc2 systems upgrade in place; no reinstall.

  • 74 package updates; final freeze for 1.0 — only critical fixes after this point

1.0-rc1 2026-03-10 · release candidate

  • First public ISOs; repo opens at 1,790 packages
  • svpkg 1.0.0: hold/history commands land; transaction log format frozen

  • Installer prototype (then called sv-setup); 40 testers from the mailing list era

pol Versioning policy

Point releases (1.0.1, 1.0.2 …) are security and bug fixes only, delivered through svpkg up, never changing behavior. Feature releases (1.1, 1.2) arrive roughly twice a year with upgrade notes here. Major releases (2.0) may change defaults and get a family codename — see the roadmap.
